Before your visit

Your first visit

What to expect when you see Dr Chia for the first time, what to bring, and how to prepare so that the consultation answers your questions.

Booking

WhatsApp +65 8223 5134, call the clinic, or book online. You do not need a referral letter, although some insurance and company plans ask for one. Family members are welcome to book for you and to come with you. Dr Chia consults in English, Mandarin, Teochew, Hokkien, Cantonese and Malay. Clinic addresses and hours are on the clinics page.

What to bring

  • Your NRIC or passport
  • Your insurance or company medical card, or e-card
  • A list of the medicines and supplements you take, or bring them in a bag
  • Earlier blood tests, scans, scope and biopsy reports, and any referral letter. Photos of reports on your phone are fine.

Before you come

  • Write down when your symptoms started, what makes them better or worse, and any change in weight.
  • Note any family history of bowel, stomach or liver cancer, or of liver disease.
  • Write down the questions you want to ask.

How long it takes

Allow about an hour at the clinic for a first visit. This includes registration, the consultation, and any simple tests done on the day.

At the consultation

  • Dr Chia asks about your symptoms, medical history and medicines, and examines you.
  • He explains the likely causes and which tests, if any, are needed. These may include blood tests, a breath test, an ultrasound, a FibroScan, a gastroscopy or a colonoscopy.
  • If a scope is needed, it is booked as a day procedure. A colonoscopy needs bowel preparation at home, so it is done on another day. You receive instructions, and you can also print our preparation sheets for gastroscopy and colonoscopy.
  • The clinic explains the costs and helps with insurance approval. See paying for your visit.

After the visit

Results are explained at a follow-up visit or after the procedure. If you were referred, a report can be sent to your GP or referring doctor.
